Digging Up Birch Hall Lane in Earby (Mill Brow)

In the past couple of days, Pendle council have got on with fixing the road approaching Birch Hall Lane (Mill Brow Road) before it finally gave way into the beck that flows along side. The road has been slowly but surely slipping into the beck for a good long while now.

The plan was to close the road between 9am and 5pm on the 10th and 11th March in order to make the repairs and everything seemed to be going to plan until the water supply underneath the road gave way today! We can only think it must have been the sheer weight of the machinery that caused it to collapse but anyhow, there was a bit of a mess as the road gave way to a torrent of water that had to be diverted into the river. Locals were left without water! As a result of today's events, the road is having to be closed for longer than anticipated and I was told they were even going to work through the night!

Unfortunately I missed most of the events of today as I was working but here are some photos taken by my parents this afternoon....
